  2. Infographic – Maximizing Mobile – World Bank Report Points to Human and Economic Development Opportunities

    Around three-quarters of the world’s inhabitants now have access to a mobile phone and the mobile communications story is moving to a new level, which is not so much about the phone but how it is used, says a new report released today by the World Bank and infoDev, its technology entrepreneurship and innovation program.  The number of mobile subscriptions in use worldwide, both pre-paid and post-paid, has grown from fewer than 1 billion in 2000 to over 6 billion now, of which nearly 5 billion in developing countries. Ownership of multiple subscriptions is becoming increasingly common, suggesting that their number will soon exceed that of the human population.

  4. 4 Facebook related search keywords in the top 10 search terms for 2011 in the U.S

    Facebook dominated the top 10 search term lists once again in 2011 with 4 of the top 10 search terms related to Facebook according to Experian Hitwise report. Facebook, Facebook login, Facebook.com and www.Facebook.com are the 4 Facebook related search terms in the top 10 in decreasing order. Facebook remained the most visited website accounting for 8.93% of all US traffic. One interesting trend is the disappearance of MySpace from the top search keywords comparing 2010 and 2011.

  8. Employees will not get emails beyond office hours

    So is this a backlash against 24-7 connectivity? Automobile giant Volkswagen is all set to deactivate emails on most of its German staff after office hours according to this report. The idea is to rid employees of the 24-7 work culture where connected devices make you work even not at work. But will just deactivating emails on one platform really help?

    “Mobile communication devices offer a great amount of freedom, but also embody the risk of no longer being able to switch off,” the company said.

    Will we be able to switch off?
