  1. BR Hills, Mysore

BR Hills or Biligiriranga Hills is about an hour’s drive from Mysore city and about 4 hours drive from Bangalore. Although located in Chamarajanagar district its proximity to Mysore makes it one of the many spots to see when in Mysore. The drive to the hilltop temple and the government-run lodge is beautiful with winding narrow roads and forest vegetation on either side. If you are lucky to have no vehicle close by to you, you can stop to experience the stillness and the sounds of the forest. I was lucky to spot a group of foxes.

The piles of elephant dung you see on the road tells you that many elephants cross the road during nighttime. The temple itself is quite small and is visited by many believers. It has spectacular views of the below valley from where you will get to appreciate the dense forests. This place is apparently the only area where Eastern and Western ghat ranges meet.
